The Book

To the highest bidder goes… a friendship with benefits?

When Tessa Noble takes the stage at a charity auction after a sexy makeover, her best friend, Ryan Bateman, must place the winning bid. It’s definitely not because he’s jealous. Their weekend getaway is a ploy for positive press…or so the rancher tells himself. But soon things take an unexpected turn from platonic to passionate, catapulting the couple far beyond the friend zone…

my thoughts

There have been times when I’ve seen someone declare, “I hate Enemies to Lovers” or “Secret Baby” is my no-go trope and usually there’s some sort of reply stating “but have you read ____”, basically implying that they might *think* they hate ______ but in reality, they just haven’t read the right book featuring that particular trope.

Y’all, this is me with Friends to Lovers. Truthfully, I have never been a huge fan of this trope but now I know that it’s because I hadn’t found the right book. But I did! And it’s His Until Midnight with BFFs, Tessa and Ryan. THESE TWO OMG.

I think what hit differently in this story was the fact that they BOTH were harboring secret longtime crushes, with each thinking the other one only saw them as friends. So. Much. Pining. So much dreaming of what the other would feel like. And boy do they find out in one long, dreamy weekend, where they are like, if this is all we get, then let’s take advantage of it AS MANY TIMES AS WE CAN. Hi and Hello

Of course, the weekend ends and real life has to resume leaving them both confused, scared to admit what they both want, and of course, missing one another. Despite knowing one another and being best friends since they were kids, they both have to overcome some misconceptions about each other and decide if the risk of losing the friendship is worth it. And y’all, when that realization hits?? I was like, HURRY UP AND GO GET EACH OTHER.

These two were a delight to read. Their initial banter and warmth for each other were so sweet that you can’t help but immediately root for them. And best of all, we get to see Tess and Ryan again in A Cowboy Kind of Thing!
