The Book

For Jasmine Ware, curating books for an exclusive clientele is her passion. Until an old friend, a dealer of rare books goes missing and his partner is murdered. Linked to an artifact smuggled out of the ancient library at Timbuktu, the mystery draws Jasmine deeper into a plot that could cost her her life.

Air force veteran and private security ace Torr Noble is accustomed to adrenaline-pumping stakes. He never expected a private librarian would be so intriguing, but Jasmine is full of surprises. As the connection between them burns hot, a powerful old enemy raises his head. Torr and Jasmine must work together to find the missing dealer.

Will the search be the start of a happily ever after or a disastrous THE END?

The Review

There’s something about a novella that I find intriguing. I mean, sure, I’ve sat down and read a full-length book in a day, but with a novella, there’s something about the tighter, faster-paced storytelling that just pulls me in. Knowing that you can sit down with your beverage of choice, get cozy, and knock out a story in a couple of hours or less is perfect for this pandemic brain I think a lot of us have right now. Rare Danger, by Beverly Jenkins, fits this bill perfectly.

Y’all, I tore through this story and LOVED IT.

Yes, things move really fast in this book, whether it’s the relationship between Jasmine and Torr, or the mystery they find themselves embroiled in, but it didn’t feel rushed. Their attraction to one another was electric and because they are older characters, who know what they want in life, their sudden intensity didn’t feel false – just like two people who don’t want to waste time.

As for the mystery, there were enough little twists and turns to keep me guessing and at times on the edge of my seat. There was a moment towards the end when I was genuinely concerned for almost every character in the book and how it would all turn out for them.

Overall, this was a perfect afternoon read if you like a little murder with your kissing.
