May Reading Wrap-Up

Happy June, Y’all!

Long time no chat! It seems to be an annual thing for me to completely stop reading during April. I don’t know what it is about that month, but every year I seem to get into a reading slump and take a break from it altogether - which is why I didn’t post an April Wrap-Up or send out a newsletter - there was nothing to talk about. ::insert nervous emoji here::

May brought me out of my slump and I found myself turning more and more to my audio library to get my reading fix as listening to books seemed like the least stressful way to get back into the swing of things. I didn’t have to physically hold anything or worry about my Kindle being charged or look for where I last put down my reading glasses for the eleventyth time, all while multitasking. WIN WIN. (win. win.)

So, let’s chat about the May Wrap-Up:

Since I was coming out of my April Reading Slump, I didn’t want to put even more pressure on myself to produce any reviews or bookish content. I mean, let’s be honest, if I couldn’t even bother to physically hold a tiny Kindle, there was no way I was going to write any sort of review about anything I read, lol. So needless to say, there are no new reviews or podcasts to share, but I DO have mini-reviews of my May reads down below AND ten books to add to your June TBR. I have a handful of ARCs coming up these next few months, so I hope you’ll stick around because I do have a ton of posts planned for those books. :)

Tell me, what did you read this past month? And what are you looking forward to reading in June?

Books Read this Month

finnikin of the rock (re-read)

★★★★★

This was a re-read for me but this time I listened to the audiobook version and y’all, it was like reading it again for the first time. I don’t know who I love more, Trevanion or Perri. And even though I know what’s coming, I’m still excited to re-read the rest of the series via audio. If you like fantasy stories filled with pain and love and tragedy and hope, then this series is for you.

pleasure of a dark prince

★★★★☆

Listen, every single one of the books in Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series are bonkers, but I love them so much. I mean, they are all variations of the MMC finding his fated mate and realizing his sole purpose for living is to please his mate in every way possible. And I mean EVERY way. What’s not to love? Best way to experience these though? The audio. Trust me.

forever your rogue

★★★★★

What else can be said for this historical romance that seems to be everywhere right now?? Everything you’ve read about this - how swoony it is, the pining, the found family, the absolute obsession this MMC has with the FMC?? IT’S ALL TRUE. I LOVED THIS BOOK.

quietly hostile

★★★★★

Samantha Irby could copy the phone book and I would read it. I love her voice so much. Literally. I finally got a chance to see her in person this past month and she was DELIGHTFUL. She knew exactly how to work a crowd and kept everyone engaged for the 90 minutes she was on stage. I tell my husband all the time that if he wants to know how my brain works, then to read her essays. They are hilarious, affirming, and completely moving in ways that you won’t expect.

mansfield park (re-read)

★★★★☆

I’ve been working my way through Austen’s works again but solely through their audio versions - the ones read by Juliet Stevenson to be precise. Her narrations are both incredibly charismatic but also oddly comforting? I should love this book more as I do love a good villain and this story has plenty to choose from, but for as many things that happen, nothing really happens., aka I don’t care about any of these people.
